Two metallic detectorists accept been convicted of stealing a £3 ane K 1000 Viking hoard of coins together with priceless jewellery - much of which is all the same missing.
George Powell, 38, together with Layton Davies, 51, failed to declare an "invaluable" collection of buried treasure dating dorsum 1,100 years to the reign of King Alfred the Great.
Prosecutors said the items, many of which were Anglo Saxon only are typical of a Viking burial hoard, were dug upward on Herefordshire farmland on June 2, 2015.
Among the priceless hoard was a 9th century gilt ring, a dragon's caput bracelet, a silvery ingot, a crystal stone pendant dating to the 5th century together with upward to 300 coins, about dating to the reign of King Alfred.
Only 31 of the coins accept been recovered, although mobile telephone photographs - afterward deleted, only recovered yesteryear law - showed the larger hoard, all the same intact, inwards a freshly dug hole.
Powell together with Davies were likewise convicted with 2 other men, 60-year-old Paul Wells together with Simon Wicks, 57, with conspiring to conceal the find.
