A medieval chess slice that was missing for almost 200 years had been unknowingly kept inwards a drawer past times an Edinburgh family.
They had no stance that the object was 1 of the long-lost Lewis Chessmen - which could similar a shot fetch £1m at auction.
The chessmen were establish on the Isle of Lewis inwards 1831 merely the whereabouts of v pieces accept remained a mystery.
The Edinburgh family's grandfather, an antiques dealer, had bought the chess slice for £5 inwards 1964.
He had no stance of the significance of the 8.8cm slice (3.5in), made from walrus ivory, which he passed downward to his family.
