Cork was a pregnant centre for Vikings inwards Republic of Ireland alongside an urban centre that predates the Viking short town inwards Waterford, a novel study on the earthworks of the city’s number centre has revealed.
According to the study past times Cork City Council executive archaeologist, Joanne Hughes, the latest discoveries at the South Main Street site confirm Cork’s significance inwards the Hiberno-Norse world.
In the study presented to members of Cork City Council, Ms Hughes said that earthworks of the site past times archeologist Dr Maurice Hurley for developers BAM, was highly revealing almost Cork’s past.
She explained that the site of the sometime Beamish in addition to Crawford Brewery following to the due south channel of the Lee had been divided into 3 separate sections for earthworks purposes.
