Both sites had entirely seen brusque visits prior to this field-season. This had resulted inwards a release of artifact recoveries, peculiarly arrows, flora roughly the melting ice. However, nosotros knew that at that topographic point were other finds on these sites, in addition to that they were lying on the surface, exposed to the elements. The master copy chore would live to rescue these artefacts. To accomplish this, nosotros planned to bear a systematic in addition to thorough survey of the lichen-free zone (where the H2O ice has melted recently) surrounding the H2O ice on both sites.
The Lauvhøe H2O ice patch
The Lauvhøe H2O ice piece was upward first. The earliest finds from this site were reported inwards 2007: 3 arrows, dating to the Iron Age in addition to the medieval period. Even amongst these remarkable finds, the site had to await x years for a proper systematic survey. This may audio harsh, simply amongst the brusque fourth dimension window available for surveys each year, other sites amongst to a greater extent than in addition to older finds had to live surveyed first. Lauvhøe’s plough had finally come upward this year.
